Finale Ligure
It is the province's fifth-largest municipality by population. It is located on the Western Ligurian Riviera between the promontories of Caprazoppa to the west and Capo Noli to the east. The Del Carretto family, a marquisate of the Finale family, established the powerful Marquisate of Finale here, an ancient pre-unification Italian state from 1162 to 1797.
Among the religious buildings, we recommend visiting the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, an imposing parish church located in Finale Marina.
Finale is a lively town even in winter, thanks to the climate that makes it a pleasant place to stay. Every Thursday morning, its pedestrianized waterfront gives way to market stalls.
The urban structure of Finale Ligure is divided into several centers: Finalmarina, Finalpia, Finalborgo and Varigotti.
Finalborgo
It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is home to two very famous castles, the more distant one being Castel Gavone, which enjoys a wonderful view of the village. Along the way is Castel San Giovanni, the setting for many open-air theater performances.
Beautiful by day, but even more enchanting at night, it's located about 1.8 km from the center of Finale Ligure and can be reached by any means of transport, including the Tartaruga Express train, which departs from Finalmarina every 30 minutes during the summer season and offers round-trip transportation. Convenient for families and those who want to enjoy the outdoor ride without having to walk.
It's full of places to eat and drink, there are shops and it's a reference point for our biker tourists who populate it in every season.
At the Chiostri you'll find the "Non uno meno" social bar, an evocative venue created as a project for disabled young people who get involved by learning to work with creativity and passion.
Among the religious buildings, the Basilica of San Biagio is beautiful, framing this wonderful village along with the walls and gates.
Varigotti
It's a little corner of paradise on earth, a small, welcoming, and colorful gem. The houses overlook the sea, the beach is made of small pebbles, and there's a small pier from which you can admire this splendid backdrop.
It's about 5 km from Finale Ligure and can be reached via a pleasant seaside walk that also crosses the port, or by bus or any other means of transport available.
There is one of the most famous beaches in Liguria, with splendid water and a wild landscape, the Baia dei Saraceni.
Italian cuisine is among the best in the world, and Liguria also boasts its own fantastic dishes. In addition to traditional focaccia and delicious pesto, we also find brandacujun, Ligurian-style rabbit, panissa, farinata, and much more... and since we're by the sea, don't miss out on a delicious fritto misto or spaghetti with clams.
